Ahmednagar or Ahilyanagar: which name to print
The Maharashtra cabinet approved renaming Ahmednagar as Ahilyanagar in March 2024, in honour of Ahilyabai Holkar, who was born in the district. The Centre’s approval followed later that year, and in September 2025 the state notified the renaming of Ahmednagar railway station as Ahilyanagar too.
