Shop branding printing is everything on and in a shop that tells a passer-by what you sell and makes them step in: the name board above the shutter, graphics on the glass, the sale banner during festivals, and the prints inside near the counter. 3 Red Media prints all of it at its own unit in Chandni Chowk, Pune, for shops, showrooms, salons, medical stores and small outlets across Pune and PCMC.
First: the Marathi name rule for shop boards in Maharashtra
Under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments law, as amended in 2022, shops and establishments must display their name board in Marathi in Devanagari script. Other languages are allowed alongside, but the Marathi text should not be in a smaller font than the other languages. The rule applies regardless of how many people the shop employs, and challenges to it have not stopped enforcement.
So when you plan a new board, design the Marathi name as a main element, not an afterthought squeezed below the English. Send us the Marathi spelling of your shop name exactly as you want it. For the latest details, check with your ward office or the labour department.
Part of the shop, and what to print for it
| Part of the shop | Good to know | |
|---|---|---|
| Above the shutter | Name board in a frame | Star flex for daytime boards; backlit flex if the board is a lit glow box |
| Shop glass | Logo, timings, product images, offers | One-way vision lets you see out while customers see the print |
| Glass door | Opening hours, “Push/Pull”, UPI and payment signs | Cut vinyl stickers |
| Inside walls | Brand wall, product categories, offer zone | Wall graphics on the wall itself |
| Counter and floor | Counter wrap, queue line, floor arrows | Vinyl on counter front; anti-skid floor print |
| Outside on festival days | Sale banners, “New stock” banners | Flex with eyelets, quick to put up and remove |
Name boards that sell from across the road
Most people see your board from the other side of the road or from a moving vehicle. A useful rule of thumb is about 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet of viewing distance, so a board meant to be read from 40 feet needs letters around 4 inches tall, and bigger is better on busy roads.
- Put the shop name and what you sell on the board. “Shree Traders” alone does not tell anyone you sell hardware.
- Leave the phone number, GST number and a tagline smaller; the name and category come first.
- Dark text on a light background, or light on dark. Avoid red on green and similar pairs that blur at a distance.
- For a board facing west or south, expect the afternoon sun to fade colours faster; plan a refresh rather than replacing in a panic.
Sale banners and festival seasons
Pune retail peaks around Ganeshotsav, Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali, and again around weddings and year-end. Sale banners for these go up and come down fast. Order them before the season starts, keep the dates on a separate strip if you use the same banner every year, and fix them with enough eyelets to survive wind.
A plain “SALE” banner outside tells people nothing. “Diwali sale: up to X% on sarees” (with your real offer) gives a reason to stop.
Mistakes shop owners make
Covering the whole glass front with opaque vinyl. The shop looks closed and dark inside. Use one-way vision or leave clear areas at eye level so people can see in.
Putting too many products on the name board. Three or four categories are readable; twelve are not.
Forgetting about permission for boards that stick out over the footpath or above a certain size. Outdoor signs can need civic permission; our permission guide covers the basics.
Inside the shop: guide the customer to buy
Once a customer is inside, prints do a different job: helping them find things and nudging them to pick more. Category boards over aisles or shelves (“Kitchenware”, “Kids”, “New arrivals”) save customers from asking staff. An offer zone with a bright wall graphic draws people to the back of the shop. A small board near the billing counter for add-on items works like a final reminder.
Keep inside prints in the same colours and fonts as the board outside so the shop feels like one brand. Laminate anything at hand height; customers touch everything.
For medical stores, mobile shops and opticians, a clear lit board matters most at night, when many customers walk in. Pair the name board with a lit symbol (a cross, a phone, a pair of spectacles) that can be recognised before the name can be read.
How ordering works
Send a photo of your shop front with the board size, plus your logo and text (in Marathi and English) on WhatsApp or through the quote form. You get a price and a proof. Once you approve, we print at Chandni Chowk and finish with framing or mounting as needed. Fixing can be arranged.
