A standee is a tall, free-standing printed display that stands on the floor or a table without being fixed to a wall. The most common kind in Pune is the roll-up standee, where the print rolls into an aluminium base and pulls up onto a pole. 3 Red Media does standee printing at Chandni Chowk for clinics, showrooms, coaching classes, launches and exhibition stalls.
Pick the right type of standee
| Type | How it stands | Best for | Portability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roll-up (pull-up) standee | Print retracts into a base; a pole holds it up | Exhibitions, reception areas, product launches, events that move | Very portable, comes with a bag |
| Sunboard cut-out standee | Printed board cut to the shape of a person or product, with a back support | Shop entrances, cinema-style life-size figures, photo booths | Light but bulky |
| Easel standee | Flat printed board on a folding easel stand | Wedding welcome boards, hotel lobbies, restaurant menus | Stand folds, board carried flat |
| X-banner standee | Print hooked onto a cross-shaped frame | Short-term promotions on a budget | Light, quick to set up |
If you will carry the standee to different venues, a roll-up is the practical answer. If it stays in one place and should look like a person or product, a sunboard cut-out makes more impact.
Standee sizes
Roll-up standees come in a few standard widths because the stands are made to fixed sizes. Ask for the size that matches your stand, or tell us you need a new stand.
| Standee | Common sizes |
|---|---|
| Roll-up | About 2.5 × 6 ft, 3 × 6 ft or 3 × 7 ft |
| Table-top roll-up | Around A3 to 1 × 1.5 ft |
| Cut-out (life-size figure) | 5 to 6 ft tall, width as per the design |
| Easel board | 2 × 3 ft or 3 × 4 ft |
Designing a tall, narrow display
A standee is read from top to bottom while someone walks past, so the layout works differently from a banner:
- Put the logo and the main message in the top third, at eye level. That is what people see across a room or over a crowd at a stall.
- Use the middle for an image or three short points.
- Keep the bottom 6 to 8 inches for less important things, such as a website or address. It sits low, near the base, and is often hidden behind a table or people’s legs.
- Do not crowd it. A standee with ten bullet points is not read; one with three is.
On a roll-up, a strip at the very bottom goes inside the base and is not visible. Leave plain background there and keep text above it.
Who uses standees in Pune
Exhibitions are the biggest use: a stall at a Pune expo typically carries two or three roll-ups alongside its backdrop. See exhibition stall printing for how they fit with the rest of a stall. Clinics and diagnostic centres keep one at reception for health packages or doctors’ timings. Coaching classes use them at admissions counters and seminars; the coaching class printing page covers that season. Real estate site offices, bank branches and car showrooms use them to promote one offer at a time.
Easel standees are a favourite at weddings, at the entrance with the couple’s names and a welcome message. Life-size cut-outs appear at store openings and promotions.
Reprinting for an existing roll-up stand
The aluminium base of a roll-up stand lasts much longer than the print. If you already have a stand, you can often get a fresh print fitted to it for a new campaign. Measure the visible width of the print and the full height, check that the base mechanism still rolls smoothly, and send a photo of the stand. Whether a reprint can be fitted depends on the stand’s design, which is checked from the photo.
Material and look
Roll-up prints need a material that stays flat and does not curl at the edges after being rolled up again and again. Indoor lighting at venues is often harsh, so a matt or low-glare finish helps the standee photograph well. Cut-out and easel standees are printed on vinyl and mounted on sunboard, which keeps them light and rigid.
How many standees for a stall?
For a typical exhibition stall, two roll-ups at the front corners and the backdrop behind usually do the job. One standee says who you are; the second can carry a single product, offer or service. More than that, and visitors stop reading them. A small table-top roll-up on the counter catches anyone who walks right up.
Looking after a standee
- Roll a roll-up back slowly, guiding the print by hand, so it does not snap down and crease.
- Keep it in its bag, standing upright or lying flat, in a dry place.
- Do not leave standees outdoors. They are indoor displays, and wind will topple even a heavy base.
- Wipe dust off a cut-out with a dry cloth; water can mark the board edges.
How to get yours made
Tell us on WhatsApp which type of standee you need, the size (or that you need a stand as well), the quantity, and send your design or content. You receive a rate and a proof, and production starts after you approve. The ready time depends on the queue and is confirmed on chat, which matters if your event has a fixed date. Collect it from Chandni Chowk or have it delivered within Pune and PCMC. Or send details through the quote page.
