Frosted glass film is a translucent self-adhesive vinyl that makes clear glass look sandblasted. It lets daylight through but blurs what is behind it, so it is used for privacy in offices, clinics and homes, and for subtle logos on glass partitions. In Pune, it is the quick, removable alternative to actual etched glass. 3 Red Media supplies frosted film cut to size, cut into designs or printed, from its Chandni Chowk unit.
Three ways to use frosted film
| Type | What it looks like | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Plain frosted | The whole pane or a band looks etched | Washroom windows, consultation rooms, cabins that need full privacy |
| Cut design | Frosted film with your logo, lines or pattern cut out (or cut as the logo) | Office partitions, reception glass, conference rooms |
| Printed frosted | Colour printed onto frosted film, so the logo glows when light passes | Branding on glass where you want colour plus privacy |
A cut design can work two ways. Either the logo is cut out of a frosted band, so the logo shows as clear glass, or the logo itself is cut from frosted film and stuck on clear glass. The first gives more privacy; the second is lighter and more decorative.
How high should a privacy band be?
You do not always need to frost the whole pane. In an office, a band that covers seated and standing eye level gives privacy while keeping the room bright and open. A common approach is a band starting around 3 ft from the floor and ending around 6 ft, adjusted for the room.
| Room | Common approach |
|---|---|
| Office cabin or meeting room | Band from about 3 ft to 6 ft, often with a cut logo or line pattern |
| Doctor’s consultation room | Full pane or band from the floor up to above head height |
| Washroom or bathroom window | Full pane |
| Reception or shop glass | Decorative strips or a cut logo, mostly clear glass around it |
| Home balcony or window facing neighbours | Lower half or full pane |
Safety strips on glass doors
Large clear glass doors and full-height partitions are easy to walk into, especially in busy offices, hospitals and showrooms. A frosted strip or a row of dots or logos at around eye level makes the glass visible without blocking it. Building and safety guidelines in many places call for such markings on large glass areas, so if you are fitting out a commercial space, check what your architect or fit-out contractor requires.
Even if privacy is not the goal, a simple frosted band on a glass door prevents bumps and broken glass. It is one of the most practical uses of the film.
Where frosted film is used in Pune
IT and corporate offices in Baner, Hinjewadi and Kharadi use it on cabin and conference-room glass, often with the company logo cut in; see corporate office branding. Clinics and hospitals use it on consultation rooms, procedure rooms and pharmacy counters; the hospital signage page covers that. Coaching centres frost classroom glass so students are not distracted by the corridor. Homes use it on bathroom windows and on balcony glass facing a neighbouring building.
Frosted film vs one way vision
These two are often confused. Frosted film blurs the view equally from both sides and works the same day and night. One way vision shows a graphic to the outside and lets people inside see out, but its privacy weakens at night when the inside is lit. If night-time privacy matters, frosted is the safer choice.
Measuring and fitting
Measure each pane inside its frame, width and height. For bands, give the height from the floor where the band should start and end, and the band height. Frosted film is usually fixed on the inside face of the glass, where it is protected from weather and cleaning on the outside.
- The glass must be clean, free of paint spots and old sticker glue.
- Film is applied wet, with a soapy water spray, so it can be slid into position before being squeegeed flat.
- Small bubbles left after fitting usually disappear in a few days as the water dries out.
- Fitting in Pune can be arranged, or you can collect the cut film and fix it yourself.
Cleaning and life
Indoors, frosted film is low-maintenance. Clean it with a soft cloth and plain water or a mild glass cleaner. Avoid scrapers, blades and abrasive pads, which scratch the surface. On glass that gets direct sun, film can age faster, but indoors it stays looking even for a long time. When you move office or change the layout, it peels off and the glass is clear again.
Patterns that work well
If a plain band feels bland, simple patterns cut into the film add character without losing privacy: horizontal lines of different widths, a row of the company logo repeated, dots that fade towards the top, or the room name cut in large letters. Keep cut details reasonably bold; very fine lines are hard to apply neatly and can lift with cleaning.
Ordering frosted film
Send the pane sizes, the band height if you want a band, and any logo or pattern on WhatsApp. You get a rate and a layout proof showing where the film and cut-outs sit on your glass. Work starts after your OK, and the ready time is confirmed on chat. Pickup at Chandni Chowk or delivery in Pune and PCMC; fitting can be arranged. The quote form is also available.
