A car wrap is a layer of vinyl film applied over the body panels of a vehicle, either printed with artwork or in a solid colour. A partial wrap covers only chosen panels, and a bike wrap covers tank, fenders and fairings. 3 Red Media prints vehicle vinyl at Chandni Chowk, Pune for people who want a custom look on a car or bike and for businesses that want their vehicles to carry the brand.
Types of wraps and graphics
| Type | What it covers | Typical user |
|---|---|---|
| Full wrap | All painted body panels | Personal car makeover, show vehicle |
| Partial wrap | Bonnet, roof, doors or side stripe | Cars that want a lift without full cost |
| Panel branding | Doors, rear, boot with logo and contact line | Small businesses, cabs, delivery vans |
| Bike graphics | Tank, mudguard, fairings, side panels | Sports and cruiser bikes, tank decals |
| Fleet branding | Same design repeated on many vehicles | Companies, schools, rental fleets |
| Cut vinyl | Letters and stripes without print | Names, numbers, racing stripes |
For simple text or numbers, cut vinyl lettering is the lighter choice. For stickers on a single panel, see vinyl sticker printing. The vehicle branding page covers commercial vehicles in more detail.
Printed wrap or colour change vinyl?
Printed vinyl is for artwork: a logo, a pattern, a photo, a livery. Colour change vinyl is a roll already dyed in gloss, matt, satin or metallic finishes, with no print at all. If you want the car to look like a different paint colour, ask for colour change film. If you want graphics, patterns or advertising, the design is printed, then usually laminated for scratch and sun protection. Some jobs combine both: a coloured base with printed or cut details on top.
How a wrap job is planned
- Vehicle details: make, model, variant and year of the car or bike, with photos of every side.
- Design brief: colours, logo, panels to cover. Existing dents, rust or peeling paint are noted, because vinyl does not hide them.
- Proof: your design is laid onto a template of the vehicle and sent on WhatsApp for approval.
- Printing and lamination: printed at Chandni Chowk, laminated for scratch and sun protection, then cut into panels.
- Application: on a clean, dry, shaded surface. Door handles, lights and badges are handled with care.
Business and fleet branding
A vehicle moving through Pune traffic is a mobile board. For a delivery van, a school bus, a doctor’s car or a rental fleet, the brief is short: logo, business line, one contact point and a colour that stands out against the vehicle. Keep the message large and the sides simple. Doors and the rear are read most. If you have several vehicles of different models, give us the make and model of each so the same layout can be adjusted to every shape.
Bike wraps and graphics
Bikes have small, curved panels, so the design is planned in pieces: tank, side panels, mudguard, fairing. Racing stripes, number plates graphics, tank pads and full-colour sets are all done in vinyl. Because the tank and mudguards are curved, fine detail near edges is kept away from deep curves. Many riders prefer a partial design on tank and tail rather than the whole bike.
RTO and colour change: check first
In India a major change to a vehicle’s body colour may need to be recorded with the RTO and reflected in the registration certificate. Rules and practice differ, so check with your local RTO before changing the colour of your vehicle. Branding graphics and stripes are generally treated differently from a full colour change, but confirm for your vehicle.
Also keep windscreens and side windows clear. Dark or tinted films on car glass are not allowed in India, so wraps stay on the body panels. Registration plates, lights and reflectors should stay uncovered and readable.
Care after wrapping
- Wait a few days before the first wash and avoid pressure-washing near edges and seams.
- Hand wash with mild soap and a soft cloth; brush car washes can lift edges.
- Park in shade where you can, since sun is the main thing that ages vinyl.
- Fix scratches or a lifted edge early; a small repair is easy, a large one is not.
- Do not scrape bird droppings or fuel spills dry; rinse them off with water first.
Wrap life depends on the film, the climate, parking and washing habits, so no fixed number of years is promised. Wraps come off by peeling with gentle heat, and the paint underneath is normally fine if the original paint was in good shape.
Which design suits which vehicle
A hatchback or a small car looks best with a simple, bold idea such as a bonnet-and-roof contrast or a side stripe. Large vehicles such as vans, tempo travellers and school buses have wide flat sides that reward a single big message. Tall commercial vehicles are read from a distance and from behind in traffic, so the rear panel is the most useful space. Bikes carry small art, so crisp lines and a few strong colours work better than busy collages.
If you only want small branding, a few printed vinyl stickers may be enough and cost a fraction of a wrap. Many people start with a partial wrap and add panels later, as long as the film batch is the same, since colour can differ slightly between batches.
How to order
Send the vehicle make, model and variant, photos of each side and the design idea or logo on WhatsApp. A template-based mock-up and rate follow, and printing begins after you approve. Application by trained fitters can be arranged, and it is the most important step of the whole job, so ask when you send the details. Start with the quote form.
