Custom vinyl wallpaper is a printed covering made to the exact width and height of your wall, so the picture or pattern fits without repeats or leftover rolls. It is chosen for feature walls in bedrooms and living rooms, café and restaurant branding, reception walls and children’s rooms. 3 Red Media prints custom vinyl wallpaper at Chandni Chowk, Pune, as numbered panels with a digital proof of how they will meet.
Standard wallpaper or printed-to-size?
Ordinary roll wallpaper comes in fixed patterns and fixed roll widths. You choose from a catalogue, and the pattern repeats across the wall. Printed-to-size wallpaper starts from a blank: your photo, illustration, brand pattern or a stock artwork is set to the wall height and width, then printed in strips. Nothing repeats unless you want it to.
| Point | Roll wallpaper | Printed-to-size wallpaper |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Catalogue pattern | Your own image or pattern |
| Fit | Cut and matched on site | Laid out for the wall beforehand |
| Logos and text | Not possible | Yes, anywhere on the wall |
| Best for | Whole-room plain patterns | Feature walls, murals, branding |
| Waste | Offcuts for pattern matching | Little, panels are made to size |
Where it suits
- Home feature walls: the wall behind a bed or sofa, a stair wall, a puja room backdrop or a kids’ room mural.
- Cafés and restaurants: a brand pattern or a photo wall that customers photograph. See restaurant branding.
- Offices and reception: logo wall, values wall, map or skyline for meeting rooms. See office branding.
- Clinics, salons and studios: calm patterns or large images that set the mood.
- Retail shops: back walls behind counters, fitting rooms and display niches.
For graphics, sign-type murals and floor-to-ceiling brand art with a wide range of materials, the wall graphics page covers more options.
How to measure your wall
- Width and height: measure at the top, middle and bottom of the wall, and use the largest figure. Walls are rarely perfectly square.
- Skirting and ceiling: decide whether the paper runs to the ceiling or stops above the skirting.
- Openings: note doors, windows, sockets and switch boards with their distance from the left corner and the floor.
- Photos: a straight-on photo of the whole wall, and a close-up of any damaged areas.
- Add a little: ask for a small extra margin on each edge so trimming is easy.
Preparing the wall
The wall decides how the wallpaper looks. Printed vinyl follows every bump, patch and crack beneath it.
- The wall should be dry, with no damp patches, seepage or peeling paint. Fix leaks before ordering, not after.
- Fill cracks and holes, sand rough plaster and remove loose paint and old wallpaper.
- Wipe off dust and oil. In kitchens and cafés, clean grease thoroughly.
- A coat of primer or a plain, matt, fully dried painted surface gives the best grip.
- Switch boards, sockets and fixtures are cut around; mark them on your sketch.
Textured walls (rough putty, heavy texture paint, exposed brick) will show through thin wallpaper and hold it badly. Smooth the wall first or choose a different material.
Finish and use: matt, gloss or textured
Matt finishes hide small wall flaws and cut reflection, which is why they suit rooms with strong light. Gloss gives deeper colour but shows every bump and reflects windows. A light textured vinyl feels closer to a conventional wallpaper. Wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens need a material that can take moisture; tell us the room and we will suggest the right film. Wipe printed walls with a damp soft cloth, not a scrubbing pad.
Artwork and image quality
A wall is large, so a small image will blur when stretched. Send the highest resolution file you have, ideally the original from a camera or the designer’s file. We check the image against the wall size before printing and tell you if it will look soft. Brand patterns made as vector files (CDR, AI, PDF) scale to any size. Our artwork guide lists accepted formats.
Design ideas that work on a wall
- One large image: a skyline, forest, map or abstract art across the full wall, with nothing important at the corners where it will be cut.
- Brand pattern: a repeating logo or icon grid for cafés and offices, which hides panel joints well.
- Kids’ rooms: animals, planets and learning charts at child height, with washable finish.
- Photo wall: a family photo or travel picture turned into a mural, provided the original is high resolution.
- Quote and text walls: lines for studios and classrooms, kept large and away from joins.
Panels meet at joins, so important faces and logos are kept clear of a seam in the layout. You see exactly where the joins fall in the proof before printing.
Installation and ordering
Panels arrive numbered and can be applied by a trained person, or you can ask your own painter or interior team to do it. Installation can be arranged, ask when you send the size. Send the wall measurements, a photo and your image or idea on WhatsApp, or upload them with the quote form. A rate and a panel layout come back for approval, and printing starts after you say yes. Collect from Chandni Chowk or have it delivered in Pune and PCMC.
