A vinyl name board uses printed or cut vinyl on a suitable base to show a person’s name, a home name or an office identity. The right choice depends on where it will sit, how far away people will read it, and what surface it needs to attach to.
For a straightforward sign, we print the name and details on vinyl and apply it to a rigid base such as sunboard. Cut vinyl lettering is another option when you want letters cut from a coloured vinyl sheet without a printed background.

What is a vinyl name board?
A name board is a small sign that identifies a home, office, room, desk or reception area. It can be made as printed vinyl on a rigid base, or as cut vinyl lettering applied directly to a suitable smooth surface. The word “vinyl” describes the lettering or printed layer, while the base and fixing method are separate choices.
Printed vinyl gives room for names, a logo, a border or more than one colour. Cut vinyl lettering gives a simpler look: the letters are cut from coloured vinyl, excess material is weeded away, and transfer tape helps position the lettering during application. It works best when the design uses clean shapes and the surface is smooth.
At 3 Red Media’s print unit in Chandni Chowk, we prepare a digital proof from the size and design details you send. We print only after you approve that proof, so check spellings, titles, language and alignment before giving approval.
What materials are used for name plates: sunboard, acrylic, ACP?
A sunboard base is a practical option for a light indoor name board. Printed vinyl can cover its face, with the wording and layout set to fit the board. See our sunboard printing options for more about vinyl on this base.
Acrylic and ACP are other materials people may consider for name plates. If you are comparing a material or fabrication option, send the size and intended location and ask us whether it can be arranged for your job. We print the vinyl; any fabrication, electrical work or installation can be arranged when you send the size.
| Option | What it suits | Points to plan |
|---|---|---|
| Printed vinyl on sunboard | Indoor door, reception or desk | Share the final size and wording; check the proof before approval. |
| Cut vinyl lettering | Smooth door, glass or another suitable surface | Use simple lettering and confirm the surface is clean and smooth. |
| Other base material | A location where a different finish is preferred | Send the size and ask whether it can be arranged for your job. |
What size name board suits a home gate or office door?
There is no single size that works for every gate or office door. Measure the free space first, then consider the usual viewing distance: a name beside an office door is read close up, while a board at a gate may need larger lettering to be legible from farther away.
Measure in feet and inches, and include the usable width and height rather than the overall door or gate dimensions. Leave room around the text so it does not feel cramped. For a desk plate, the viewer is close, so a smaller board with clear lettering may be enough.

What fonts and colours look professional?
Choose a typeface that remains readable at the distance people will see the board. A plain font with clear letter shapes is usually easier to read than decorative lettering, especially when a name includes several words. Keep the name as the main line and make a role, flat number or department smaller.
Strong contrast between the letters and background helps the wording stand out. Dark letters on a light background, or light letters on a dark background, are common starting points. If the board is part of an office identity, use colours and a logo that match the existing sign or stationery. Our office branding work can help keep signs consistent across a workplace.
Send a good quality logo or artwork file where available. Ask to see the digital proof at the intended layout size, and check small text carefully. Our guide to sending artwork for print explains what details to provide.
How do I show a name in Marathi and English together?
A bilingual name board can place Marathi and English on separate lines, with both scripts given enough room to read. Send the exact spelling in each language, including any initials, designation or house name. Do not rely on a transliteration if the exact Marathi wording matters.
For a business or shop board, Maharashtra rules may require the name in Marathi in Devanagari and set conditions for its size relative to other scripts. Requirements can change and may depend on the sign, so confirm the current position with the relevant ward office before finalising the layout.

How do I fix a name board to a wall or gate?
The fixing depends on the board, surface and exposure. A small, light board on a suitable smooth indoor surface may use strong tape; a board on a wall or gate may need screws or another fixing suited to that material. Check that the surface is sound, clean and dry before fitting.
For outdoor placement, think about rain, wind and direct sun. Pune’s monsoon usually runs from June to September, and a west-facing surface can receive harsh afternoon sun. These conditions may affect where the board sits and how it is fixed. If you need installation or fabrication, send the size and ask us whether it can be arranged for your job.
If the board faces a public road or forms part of a shopfront, check any applicable permissions with your ward office. For more sign formats, see our sign board printing options and cut vinyl lettering details.
Send the wording, finished size, preferred base, location and design file with your vinyl name board quote request. We will share a price and digital proof for review, and printing starts only after you approve the proof.
