A cutout standee is a life-size image printed on vinyl, mounted on sunboard and cut around its outline. For a clean result, send a sharp full-length photo, the finished height and details of where it will stand.
At 3 Red Media, we print the vinyl and mount it on sunboard before shaping the cutout. Send the size and design through the quote form, review the digital proof, and printing starts only after you approve it. The print unit is at Chandni Chowk, Pune, and delivery can be arranged across Pune and PCMC or by courier elsewhere in India, with courier charges added to the quote.

What is a cutout standee?
It is a printed image made to stand upright, with the board trimmed to follow the person, character or object in the artwork. Unlike a standard rectangular poster, its outside edge follows the silhouette. The back usually has a support to help it stand on a flat floor.
Sunboard is a light PVC foam sheet often used for indoor or covered signs. The vinyl print is mounted on the sheet, then the outline is cut. The board thickness, overall size and support should suit the display location and how often the cutout needs to be moved.
For event displays, see our standee printing in Pune options. If you are comparing board uses, our sunboard printing guide explains where mounted vinyl signs can work well.
How is a life-size cutout standee made?
First, choose the image and decide the finished height in feet and inches. A person intended to look life-size should be photographed from head to toe, with enough space around the body so the outline can be separated cleanly. Mention if the cutout needs to include an object, a logo, or a particular pose.
Next, the artwork is checked for image quality, proportions and the shape to be cut. A digital proof helps you review the size, crop, colours and outline before approval. Once approved, we print the design on vinyl, mount it on sunboard and cut around the agreed shape.
The edge may be simpler or more detailed depending on the image. Hair, loose clothing, fingers and narrow gaps can make a silhouette harder to cut neatly, so a pose with a clear outline often works better. Share the original image at full resolution rather than a screenshot or a compressed social media copy.

What image quality is needed for a life-size cutout?
Use the clearest original photograph available, preferably a full-length image taken in good light. The subject should stand apart from the background, since a strong contrast makes the outline easier to identify. Avoid images with the feet or head cropped off if you want a complete figure.
A small image enlarged to life-size can look soft or pixelated, especially when viewed close up. Share the file as it is, and include the target height so the artwork can be checked at the intended scale. You can also review our artwork preparation guide for file-sharing tips.
| Artwork detail | Why it matters | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Full-length subject | Shows the intended life-size proportions | Original photo with head and feet visible |
| Clear outline | Helps define the cut shape | Pose with space around arms, legs and clothing |
| High resolution | Keeps facial and clothing details clearer at scale | Largest original image file available |
| Finished height | Sets the print and board dimensions | Height in feet and inches, plus display location |
How is the stand or support attached to the back?
The rear support helps the cutout stay upright on a flat surface. Its size and position depend on the cutout’s height, shape and where the weight sits. A narrow figure may need a different support arrangement from a wide character or product shape.
Tell us if the standee will be placed on a table, near an entrance or on the floor, and whether it needs to be moved between locations. Fabrication or installation can be arranged when you send the size and job details. For outdoor or exposed use, explain the conditions so the material and support can be discussed; a sunboard cutout is generally better suited to indoor or covered display.
Which events use cutout standees: weddings, launches, brands?
Weddings use life-size couple cutouts, welcome displays and themed characters near the entry or photo area. Product launches, exhibitions, shop promotions and college events may use a person, mascot or product shape to draw attention at a defined spot. Keep the display clear of walkways and doors, and check with the venue about placement.
For a coordinated event setup, a cutout can sit near a printed backdrop or welcome board. Explore event backdrop printing or wedding banner printing if you need related graphics. For a public-facing sign or display, permissions can depend on the location and authority, so check with your ward office where relevant.

How should a cutout standee be stored and moved?
Carry the board upright and support it across the back so the cut edge does not bend or catch on other items. Keep the printed face away from rough surfaces, and avoid placing heavy objects against it. If the standee has a separate support, keep the parts together and pack them so they cannot rub against the print.
Store it flat or upright in a dry, covered place, away from direct heat and damp. Do not leave a sunboard cutout exposed to rain or strong wind. Before reusing it, check the edges and support, then place it on a stable, level surface.
To request a quote, share the finished height, the original image, quantity, event date and delivery location. We will prepare a price and digital proof for your review before printing. Send your cutout standee details for a quote.
