Frosted film for clinic glass gives a consulting room privacy while the corridor and waiting area still get daylight. The usual layout is a frosted band across the heights where a seated or standing person could be seen, clear glass above it, and the doctor’s name or timings cut into the film. It peels off later, which suits rented clinic space.
Clinics have a particular problem: patients want privacy, yet a glass room that is shut off completely feels cramped and unwelcoming. Film solves it by being selective: it hides what needs hiding and leaves the rest open.

Which frosted film suits clinic glass?
Plain frosted film does most of the work: it blurs shapes and colours completely and still passes daylight. The choice is which rooms get which treatment; the frosted glass film page has more detail.
| Glass | Treatment | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Consultation room wall or door | Plain frosted band, or a full pane | Hides the desk and the patient from the corridor |
| Examination or procedure room | Full pane, or a band that starts below the couch top | A person lying on a couch is lower than one seated |
| Waiting area and reception | Mostly clear, frosted only behind the desk | Keeps the space open while hiding files and screens |
| Washroom and changing room windows | Full pane | Nothing should be visible at any height |
| Pharmacy or billing counter | Clear glass with cut lettering | Staff need to see out and patients need to read |
How high should a frosted band be on a consulting room door?
Work it out in your own room instead of copying a standard height. Chairs, couches and door positions differ, and the band has to cover every height at which someone inside could be seen.

- Sit where the patient sits and have someone mark your eye level on the glass.
- Stand in the same spot and mark again, then mark the top of your head.
- Add a few inches above the tallest line for taller visitors.
- Check whether a couch or bed shows through the lower glass, and frost down far enough to cover it.
For many consulting rooms the result lands somewhere between 3 ft and 6 ft from the floor. Leave the glass above the band clear, so daylight still reaches the corridor.

Can a clinic show timings and a doctor’s name on frosted glass?
Yes. Lettering reads well on frosted film in two ways: clear letters cut out of the frost, which look like small windows, or solid letters cut from white or coloured vinyl and stuck on top. Either reads clearly when it is large and plain, so the timings, the doctor’s name and the room number stay legible from the corridor. As a rough rule, allow 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet of reading distance, so timings meant to be read from 20 feet away want letters of about 2 inches.
What a doctor’s sign may say is a separate question. Clause 7.13 of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002, which the National Medical Commission pointed doctors to in October 2023, covers signboards. It says a sign should not be unusually large and should carry only the name, qualifications, titles, speciality and registration number with the state medical council’s name. It does not mention timings, so ask the Maharashtra Medical Council what applies to your clinic before the wording is final.

Can I use one way vision for a clinic front?
Yes for street-facing glass, with a limit. One way vision shows a printed graphic to the road and dims the view out, but its privacy depends on light. By day it works, and after dark, with the clinic lit and the road dim, people outside can see in. Use frosted film wherever privacy must hold at every hour; the one way vision vs frosted film comparison sets the two side by side.
How do I keep a waiting room bright but private?
Keep the frost where eyes meet bodies, not across every pane. Frost a band where the consulting room faces the corridor, leave the upper glass clear, and seat patients at an angle to the glass instead of facing it. Dark and mirrored films cut daylight and make a small clinic feel closed in, so they are the wrong tool here. Frosted film may take the edge off glare on west-facing glass in a Pune afternoon, but it is not sold as heat control; a room that stays too hot is a job for solar-control film.
Clinics clean glass often. Use a soft cloth with mild glass cleaner or soapy water, and test any disinfectant wipe on a small corner of the film first, because strong solvents can lift edges.
Which design looks calm and professional?
- One pattern throughout. The same band height and style on every pane reads as order.
- White frost, one brand colour at most. A single accent in the clinic name is enough.
- Plain, large lettering. Marathi and English at matching weight, with nothing thin enough to vanish at a distance.
- Gentle shapes. Horizontal lines and soft dots suit patients; zigzags and busy motifs do not.
At Chandni Chowk in Pune, 3 Red Media cuts frosted film for cabins and partitions, and clinics around Kothrud can read how orders from that side of town work on the vinyl printing in Kothrud page. The rest of a clinic’s signs, from lobby directories to door plates, sit under hospital signage. Room photos and glass sizes go in through the quote form, and the proof lays the band over your own glass.
